We were out and about the other day and for the 4 hundred millionth time this year alone Tom went and bought himself a bottle of iced tea. He loves the stuff, particularly the fruity ones. So when TeaPigs offered me a selection of their teas to try out for the summer I knew iced tea was definitely the way to go.
I don’t know what I was expecting and I don’t know why I thought it would be so much harder to make iced tea than it would to make a normal cup of tea but it was the easiest thing in the world. Also, real iced tea is considerably better for you than the bottled stuff which is full of empty calories and spoonfuls of sugar.
How To Make Iced Tea
- Pop your tea bags (or temples if you’re going down the Teapigs route like me) into a jug or glass – 1 per person.
- Cover with hot water.
- Leave to brew for 3 minutes.
- Top up with cold water and ice.
- Make it as fancy as you like!
Told you it was easy!
Liquorice And Peppermint Iced Tea
Tom officially has the sweetest sweet tooth in the history of the world ever. I mean this is the boy that puts extra sugar in a caramel macchiato from Starbucks! So when the liquorice and mint says it’s a sweet treat I knew it had to be the one I tried on Tom.
I didn’t even need to add anything to it. Not a spoonful of sugar, not a thing. It was so refreshing and most definitely a sweet treat. I’m not a big fan of liquorice so needed a little coercion to try it but once I did I found it not to taste liquoricey at all. I think with this one though I’d leave the tea temple in for a little longer than the 3 minutes to really enhance the flavour.
Lemon and Ginger Iced Tea
Lemon and ginger are pretty much two of my most favourite flavours and when they’re put together I love the way the lemon cuts through the spicy flavour of the ginger. So lemon and ginger for lazy days was a no brainer when it came to choosing my flavour to try!
The smell of it alone made my mouth water while I was making it. It smelt so delicious I could barely wait for it to cool down before trying it. I did though, and I was pleased I did because it was gorgeous. Instead of ice I added a couple of frozen lemon slices to it and I think it really finished it off nicely.
It would also make an excellent mixer for gin, essentially making it Lemon and GINger Iced Tea! This got me thinking…
Gin and tea are two of my favourites so a combination of the two of them is always a winner in my book. In fact the Royal Tea cocktail with Earl Grey and gin is one of my absolute favourites but I didn’t just want to copy that so I thought I’d have a play around.
Green Tea Cocktail
I started with Teapigs Mao Feng Green Tea as a base and topped it off with ginger beer before adding a splash of Tanqueray gin. It was so absolutely delicious I ended up running out of green tea bags! I guess officially it’s 2 parts green tea, 2 parts ginger beer and 1 part gin.
I really enjoyed this but it definitely needs a better name the Green Tea Cocktail. Do you have any ideas? Do you have any good iced tea cocktail recipes that I should try?
