I’ve been in and out of a bit of a funk recently just not very happy in general. I think it’s been a combination of things; feeling all hot, sticky and not sleeping properly, feeling a bit homesick, things not happening, not knowing what I want to happen and having to wait to do some things I want to do know. You know how it is sometimes. As a result, yesterday I was adamant I was going to be in a good mood. All complaining was banned in work and a joke was made of complaining about not being able to complain, which only bolstered the mood even more.
When you’re in a good mood everything seems so much better. You can be more sympathetic and empathetic with people and little things don’t get under your skin. It’s a much more relaxing way to be and it makes you feel a little more grateful for the things you have. So, I have decided to share with you ten little things that make me happy. They’re just daft little things that brighten my day.
10 Things That Make Me Happy
1. Bubble Baths
I love lazing in the bath for hours. All my cares just melt away especially when I have a magazine, some music and candles in the bathroom with me. Tom tries shutting all the doors in the flat and cranks the volume up on the TV when I’m in the bath because I love to wail along to the songs on the radio. Absolute Radio 00s is one of my favourites for bath time singing, I’ve also been in eyeing up Chilled R&B The Platinum Edition for this reason too.
2. A Cup Of Tea And A Biscuit
There’s not much more to say about it really but a nice cup of tea can solve everything. In fact, the biscuit is totally optional I’m happy with just a brew. Especially if I don’t have to make it myself.
3. Watching Films In Bed
One of my absolute favourite things is when there’s nothing on the TV of an evening and Tom and I go to bed to watch a film instead. We could sit on the sofa and watch it but there’s something a little bit more luxurious about snuggling under the duvet rather than sitting on a couch.
4. Sunny Days In London
Sunny days in general get my vote but London does sunny days particularly well. I don’t know what it is but when it’s a glorious day I get that feeling I never want to leave.
5. New Socks
That feeling when you put a brand new pair of socks on for the very first time is gorgeous.
6. The First Page In A New Notebook
I love stationery full stop but there’s something special about that very first page in a new notebook. Maybe it’s all the potential or just the excitement of a fresh start. Whatever it is, it can’t be beaten.
7. Cuddles
That’s it. Just sometimes a hug is all you need to put a smile back on your face.
8. Rewatching Old Programmes
The Syfy Channel was showing re-runs of Buffy The Vampire Slayer a little while ago. I’ve really enjoyed watching them because they remind me of my best friend, Hannah and I’d forgotten how much of a crush I used to have on Xander!
9. Getting Post
More often than not, when I check our post box there’s only bank statements or bills in there waiting for us but every now and then there’s something a bit more exciting. I love letters and cards (goes back to my stationery obsession) and always try to send thank you and occasion cards by post. The little bit of extra effort means a lot to me and it makes receiving something in the mail that bit more personal. In a world where so easily contactable by so many immediate means these days, a bit of snail mail is nice.
10. Days Out
I love days out. Whether they’re planned and super exciting, like when the in-laws and I went to Woburn Safari Park a couple of weekends and got to feed the giraffes and penguins and play with the lemurs. (Thank you Sophie, it was amazing!) To the random days Tom and I decide to remind ourselves what we like about East London and end up walking for hours.
They were just ten things off the top of my head that make me a happy Laura. Should I turn this into a series of posts? Do you want to know about more things that make me happy? What are some of the little things that make you happy?
Kisses,

This is so cool – they say you should make these lists to remind yourself what is important. I LOVE a cuppa tea and a biscuit so bad and I ALWAYS re-watch old programs – I like the familiarity. Sunny days in London crack me up – I wasn’t aware they existed 😉
