Lojo In London: The Vintage Furniture Flea

11/03/2014      1 Comment

I love a Judy’s Vintage Fair. You’re always guaranteed a wide range of stall holders and loads of lovely little gems. I don’t think I’ve ever left one without lusting after something, even if I don’t always come home with it.

Vintage Furniture Flea

The latest of Judy’s fairs I went to was The Vintage Furniture Flea at York Hall in Bethnal Green. Literally just around the corner from where Tom and I used to live. I’d have probably bought the 1950’s atomic coat stand I wanted if we still lived there but it was so heavy and we’d come along on the tube.

I’ve already mentioned how desperately I want to re-decorate our flat at the minute so any excuse to look at more furniture and home ware! Plus, we got some money for Christmas that we still haven’t spent (I know!) so off we trundled to Bethnal Green.

There were a few little gems that caught our eye. The coat stand I mentioned before. Tom wasn’t as fussed on it as I was and if I didn’t think he’d make me carry it home myself I’d have probably fought harder for it. There was a big blue chest/trunk that we both fell a bit in love with. It was a lot lighter than the coat stand and we’d have shared the carrying, but can you image a huge piece of furniture like that on the Central Line? Plus, we don’t really have anywhere in the flat it could live. It was a bit of a monster. I’d have definitely climbed in it if we had bought it. There was also a working sideboardy radio, record player thing (I’m sure it has a proper name, but I don’t know what it is) that I so desperately wanted too but someone was in the process of buying it as we walked up. Heart. Broken! It just means I’m going to have to start hitting a few more of Judy’s Vintage Furniture Fleas to find another one.

Vintage Furniture - cases

As always with Judy’s fairs there was a huge tea room section. Vintage furniture shopping is hard work and a cup of tea and a piece of cake always goes down a treat and is necessary rejuvenation to get back out and dig through some more.

Judy’s Vintage Fairs aren’t just a London affair, oh no. I highly recommend that you go down for a mooch next time there’s one near your city. I know I’ll be down at my favourite Bethnal Green’s Affordable Vintage Fair on 6th April Which has vintage furniture as well as clothes), the London Vintage Kilo Sale on 4th May (bargains galore) and the next Vintage Furniture Flea on 6th July.
