I’ve developed a bit of a crush on black flowers recently. Yes, you read that correctly, black flowers. I didn’t even know you could get black flowers until a couple of weeks ago. Does that make me terribly naive? Have black flowers always been a thing and I’ve just never noticed?
Anyway, it all started on a visit to Tom’s parents house. We were sitting in their back room looking out on to the garden and his dad pointed out the black tulips he was growing. Now tulips are one of my favourites when it comes to flowers so I was pretty impressed with these black ones. I’d never seen anything like them and, although I didn’t realise it at the time, was smitten with the whole notion of black flowers.
A couple of weeks ago OK Bouquet sent me a dozen black roses* and my heart went all a flutter. They are magnificent and everyone that came to the house commented on how unusual they were. Plus, not only did they look great, they smelt incredible.
My mum was trying to work out if they had been dyed or were grown that way and, honestly, I don’t know and I don’t really care when the end product is so spectacular.
Also, the colour of them meant they lasted for ages. They didn’t start to fade the way regular coloured flowers do and look a bit sorry for themselves. In fact they stood tall and just dried out. It wasn’t until I was dusting the side and realised they’d been going for some time that I actually even realised they’d gone crunchy because they still looked good. Magic! I’m not sure if that says more about the flowers or me to be honest, don’t judge me, ok?
So now I’m on the hunt to see what other flowers I can find as a black variety. If you know of any please do let me know.
I’ll always love having fresh flowers in the house to brighten it up but every now and then I’ll definitely be drawn to the drama of a black bouquet.
Kisses,
