After ignoring a stream of letters gently reminding me that it had been some time since my last eye test, Tom started getting them too. Since both of us wear our glasses on a daily basis and we we’re both getting nudged I went a booked us both in for a Saturday afternoon trip to Specsavers.
I’m short-sighted and have worn glasses for distance since I was about 13 or 14. As is expected my eye sight has slowly deteriorated over that time. So I was fully expecting to get a stronger prescription… not this time! Apparently the surge of hormones that being pregnant caused, alongside a whole raft of other things, my eyesight to ever so slightly improve!! I wasn’t expecting that but apparently it’s fairly common.
Anyway, a new prescription means new glasses. Woohoo! I often wish I could afford new glasses more frequently. I mean they live on my face every day, not even through choice really. You wouldn’t wear the same top everyday but I have to wear the same glasses.
It took me ages to choose my new frames and I felt a bit sorry for the girl in Specsavers that was trying to help me. She kept suggesting frames and I kept finding faults with them. Like I said, if I’m going to wear them every day I needed to be really sure. She did actually show me the first pair that I chose so all was well in the end.
I love these Karl Largerfeld glasses. They’re the ones I wear most often and despite them being nice and chunky they’re still really light. I’m a big fan of the tortoiseshell colour and the chunky gold chain arm.
Most of the glasses I tried on wear this colour. I think I’m drawn to it because it’s like the glasses equivalent of leopard print. But it was the chunky gold arms that really sold these to me.
I always tend to go for quite bold frames because,I figure, I may as well make a feature out of the fact I’m a speccy four eyes.
I always try to choose two pairs that aren’t too similar. Although these are the same shape as the others overall they’re a very different style. I’ve been into this sort of half frame style since I watched Legend a few weeks ago – who’d have thought one of the Kray twins would become fashion inspiration for me?!
You can’t really see it in this picture properly but these Jeff Banks frames are green and they kind of remind me of vintage tiles. It was pointed out to me a few times that these are men’s glasses but I can’t really see how gender matters when it comes to frames.
These are also really light but a lot more delicate than my other choice. I think that’s why I don’t wear them as much. I’m nervous about Cecilia grabbing them off my face and breaking them.
I love new glasses day so I thought I’d share it with you. What do you think? Did I choose well?
Kisses,
This post is not sponsored in any way. I just like my new glasses and thought I’d share them with you.
