Music has always been a huge part of my life. Especially live music, from street teaming (does anybody else remember when that was a thing?) to working at The Barfly in Liverpool I’ve always been in my element when I’ve been somewhere close to live music. So, I’m sure you can imagine how gutted I feel every time I hear that another venue across the UK is closing or is under threat. An estimated 40% of London’s music venues have closed and most of them were iconic. n response Selfridges will become a venue for a series of musical collaborations from 20 July – 18 October as part of its new campaign Music Matters at Selfridges.
This is where a rather unlikely supporter steps in – Selfridges. I know, right? Selfridges is going to become a venue for a series of musical collaborations from 20th July to 18th October as part of its new campaign, Music Matters at Selfridges. Don’t think this is just a London thing! The iconic retailer is planning on hosting events and collaborations with musical talent across all its stores in London, Manchester, Birmingham and online during the three-month long campaign.
Selfridges’ Oxford Street will provide a platform for new music artists, in the Ultralounge, the world’s first in-store live music venue. Superstar creatives Skepta and A$AP Rocky will open and close Music Matters at Selfridges with global exclusive fashion-based concepts.
From Thursday 20th July for 9 weeks, the UltraLounge will become a state of the art visual content studio and interactive platform for the Music Matters at Selfridges line-up. They host new music nights and artist nights called ‘Selfridges Presents’ and a donation will be made by Selfridges to the Music Venue Trust for every ticket purchased for those events.
There will also be a whole load of other musical happenings taking place in-store, including classical, acoustic and DJ performances, as well as a curated collection of nostalgic music merch.

A couple of those nights look pretty interesting and I’m going to try and get down there to see this magnificent space they’ve set up. Gigs in shops could be the future… I’m not sure. This sounds good though and above all support live music wherever and whenever you can. It’s the only way we won’t lose all our venues forever.
