Yes! Look at me getting the May roundup in at an appropriate time! As I’m sure you can see I’m very proud of myself. Obviously, it seems like no time at all since my last roundup. That’s because it was only like last week!
That was a lot of exclamation marks. I’m sorry. I’m a little embarrassed by my over-enthusiasm there.
Anyway, May was another busy one. It felt like I didn’t stop all month. I’m pretty sure we didn’t have a single weekend that we didn’t do something.
I tackled two more escape rooms in May. Both by Escape London and both in Shadwell. In fact, I did them both on the same night too. I completed Escape The Seven Seas and Taken. They were great and we’re going back this month to tackle the third room at that site, Wizardry and Witchcraft.
I had a few birthdays in May. Most of which all happen on the same day. 3rd May is a big deal in my world. It is Tom’s birthday, Steph’s birthday and my friend Steven’s birthday too. I haven’t yet seen Steven because I couldn’t make it to his celebration. Tom and I had a quiet one at home with a takeaway, a film and a child tucked up in her own bed early! And I keep forgetting to book Steph’s present. We’re going for cocktails and afternoon tea. I’ll do that soon, I promise.
The reason I couldn’t make it to Steven’s birthday celebration was that our lovely friends Warren and Meg got married. Their wedding was just gorgeous and the weather was brilliant too. It also meant I got a night in a hotel. No toddler coming in and waking me up in the night or climbing into bed and sleeping on my head! It was glorious. I also got one of my favourite things in the world, a hotel breakfast. Yum.
Considering I lived so close to Stratford for so long I never actually made it to Roof East. So when their summer opening party coincided with the night I was supposed to be meeting Steph to go out for tea anyway we went to check it out. It’s so good up there. The cocktails are good, the barbeque is tasty and there is so much to do. We tried our hand at everything and I’ve established I don’t really understand bowls, I’m rubbish in the batting cages and my crazy golf game needs improving. Giant Jenga however, I’m all for. There’s also a cinema up there that we never went into but am hoping to go and catch a film up there soon.
May saw our annual Clinch family holiday to Centre Parcs. We’ve been going for the past three years now and I do like it there. Every year it gets better for me as I see Cece loving being outdoors pretty much all day. This kid loves nature. I’m not sure where she gets it from to be honest. I’m not what you might call the outdoorsy type. I’m definitely getting more into it as I get older though.
I finally made it back to skating. I haven’t been to training since we broke up for Christmas and it’s been building and building in my mind. I don’t even know why. I was having some sort of crazy mental block. But I strapped my skates back on and glided around for a bit and it wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought. It did, however, hurt like hell. I didn’t realise how much strength I must have built up in my ankles because they were so achy even after such a short time. It’ll come back I know but wow I’d forgotten what it was like when I first started.
Cocktail bar Simmons launched a new location in Angel. So I went down to help them celebrate. I caught up with some lovely bloggy babes and had a great night. It always astounds me how small their venues seem to be. Although I’ve only been to a couple of them. Maybe I’m only visiting the narrow bars.
Sunday saw Steph and I hop on the train to Hatfield for Slam Dunk South. I’ve been to a lot of Slam Dunk Festivals in my time but they’ve always been the Leeds leg. So it was nice to have a change of scenery and see their brand new venue. Hatfield House made Slam Dunk feel like a proper festival if that makes sense. And, although it threatened to storm all day. The rain mostly held off and the lightning at the end of the day was crazy.
So there we have May in a nutshell. Here’s to a just as hectic June!
