Making Cece’s Secret Blanket Fort

29/08/2019      1 Comment

*I was sent this item for review purposes. All thoughts and words are my own. If I didn’t love it I’d let you know.

Time4Sleep are taking over Millenium Square in Leeds today to try and break the record for the world’s biggest blanket fort. If you are in and around the area you should definitely stop by and see it for yourself. I’m sad I won’t get to see it for myself but can’t wait to see the photos of it.

To celebrate, they sent me a box of goodies to make my own (much smaller) version at home. As much as I’d like to hide away in a blanket fort I thought there was another little someone in our house that would enjoy their own secret space even more than I would.

Since the arrival of Rory, Cece doesn’t get much time on her own at home. Her little sister is always around and even though they don’t share a bedroom (yet!) What was once Cece’s room is already slowly becoming their room as more and more of Rory’s things find their way in there. So, when I showed her the box of goodies that arrived she was very excited to get building.

Inside the blanket fort building kit was bedsheets, bunting, pegs, fairy lights, a chalkboard sign, an iPad stand, a torch, corn for popping, popcorn boxes and a book of fabulous ideas.

The addition of a couple of laundry airers, a throw from the sofa and a selection of cushions from her bed and in a matter of minutes we’d whipped up a blanket fort fit for a princess.

It definitely helps that Cece has a bit of a thing for tents at the moment. The excitement when I told her what we were going to make was palpable. It was only amplified when I told her she could take my iPad in there with her to watch Paw Patrol.

It hasn’t just been her little haven to retreat to to watch her favourite programmes without the intrusion of her little sister (or us!) It has also bee the centre point of a number of games that she’s been playing too. It was her house, preschool and even the fire station that I had to call her from to rescue me.

Building a blanket fort is one of the easiest things to do with your kids but one that I just never really think of doing. And you get so much in return from not a lot of effort. It’s an excellent thing do. If you can make it big enough for you both to fit in (or you can convince them to let you in) – even better!
