On Monday I’ll be 36 weeks pregnant. That’s a bit scary. Where exactly has the time gone?
Every now and then I think I’m starting to nest and then I run out of energy and just want to hibernate instead. Although, really the extent of my “nesting” so far is buying an awful lot of home stuff and telling Tom what a fun Easter weekend we’re going to have getting everything ready. I say we, we all know I mean him. While I give instructions from the sofa because I can’t lift anything too heavy and he likes to put flat-pack furniture together without my interference.
I do know though, that this weekend, in preparation for our mammoth Easter weekend spruce up plan that I really need to buckle down and get some sorting out done. When I first discovered I was pregnant, I attacked our bedroom with great guns. I cleared out both mine and Tom’s wardrobe and my shoe collection. There were about six bin bags full of stuff that headed out to the charity shop. Since then though, I’ve been slacking. I know I need to finish the shelves at the top of the wardrobe, the chest of drawers in the spare (soon to be baby’s) room and there’s an entire clothes rail in there, jam packed with stuff I couldn’t fit in my wardrobe too. Oops. There’s definitely no space for a baby and all the things they need in there yet. So I really need to get a move on and sort all that out this weekend. I reckon the charity shop will be receiving another carload of things pretty soon too.
So, when Dettol shared this video with me it definitely struck a chord.

That massive surge of energy that makes me want to clean the house from top to bottom is still currently eluding me and, although, the mind is willing, I have to admit, the flesh is incredibly weak. Luckily, my mum is springing to my rescue and is coming to visit at the beginning of April to Spring clean my home like it’s never been done before. You know, just in case that urge never actually does take me. Isn’t she a gem?
I do actually have a lot of Dettol products stashed under the sink ready for her arrival. Not just because of the arrival of the baby being imminent but because they’re one of the few cleaning brands that I actually like the smell of.
Dettol have prepared a few simple hygiene habits to ensure that your home is hygienically clean and safe for your little one:
No matter how clean your home is, it’s essential to take extra care when you’re preparing for the arrival of a new-born or have a toddler keen to explore.
Healthier Surfaces
- Nurseries should be kept free of harmful germs, especially in the first few weeks. Don’t forget it’s not just the changing mat and cot that can harbour germs but also frequently touched areas like the door handles and light switches. Dettol Anti-bacterial Surface Cleanser has no taint, no odour and no bleach and is suitable for use in baby contact areas.
Germ Free on the Go
- From that first night in the hospital to the first trip out, keep car seats, high chairs and all your baby equipment germ free with Dettol Anti-bacterial Cleansing Surface Wipes which kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses and are great for hard to reach surfaces and on the go.
Hands
- Keeping your hands clean, before and after handling your little one, is really important to make sure germs don’t spread. If you’re feeding, changing, or perhaps handling food or pets, try our Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System. It automatically dispenses anti-bacterial Hand Wash, after you place your hands under the nozzle to help prevent the spread of germs.
Added Laundry Protection
- It’s not just re-used baby clothes and bedding that can harbour germs, new ones can too! While washing at low temperatures is kind to baby’s clothes, it doesn’t offer protection against bacteria which can survive below 60˚C. Use our unique Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser alongside your normal detergent and softener to guarantee hygienic cleaning, even at temperatures as low as 15˚C.
So, wish me luck for these three super busy weekends that are looming and send me all the good clearing out, fixing up and cleaning vibes that you can. Here’s hoping baby C doesn’t make an appearance before we have everything ready for them!
