Rumble In The Jumble 3 came to East London last Saturday so Tom and I had a root through our wardrobes for a bag of jumble each to take down and off we went with our bargain hunting hats firmly on.
We had a dig through the rails and came away with a good few bargains. I got a leather jacket, wool coat and a gorgeous silk scarf and Tom got a new jacket and a couple of tops he’d actually meant to go back to Topman to buy but never got round to it. We also got a really bright t-shirt that was donated by the lovely Annie Mac. (Would you be interested in me doing another post to show you our Rumble In The Jumble haul?) Tom really wanted a bomber jacket he’d seen online that Yannis from Foals donated but we never saw it and I want Lauren Laverne’s leopard print coat but we never saw that either, never mind!
Not only did celebrities donate loads of clothes for the jumble they also manned some stalls. This is Tom’s sly photo of Caroline Flack. (I think she spotted him taking it.) She is so teeny tiny. I never realised she was so short and she only has size 3 feet!
As well as all the fun, dancing through the rails, dangerous cocktails and ace nail art there is a serious part to what Rumble In The Jumble is doing. Raising money (a massive £24,458.62) for The Music Circle in conjunction with Oxfam.
The money from Rumble In The Jumble will be used to support women in the DRC; strengthening the work Oxfam already do with communities on protection and working on women’s and men’s strategies for ensuring that women’s concerns are addressed through the project. Targeting 56,000 direct beneficiaries of which half are women, the project aims to support protection committees for a to better ensure women’s right to protection in Eastern DRC.
The Music Circle is a subsidiary of Annie Lennox’s The Circle. Set up in 2008 by Annie Lennox and Oxfam, The Circle is a partnership of influential women who work with Oxfam, bringing ideas, skills and resources to the table to help Oxfam fight poverty and inequality. To date, The Circle has raised almost a million pounds for Oxfam.
This harrowing clip explains what is going on in the DRC and is why we need to support the women who live there:
