There’s no hiding the fact that I love Christmas. In fact, as I type this I’m sitting on the couch scoffing a Kinder chocolate Santa at a rather alarming pace. I’m desperate to get the deccies up and I’m looking forward to starting some of our own little family traditions with Cecilia.
I’ve been watching Christmas films on a daily basis (thank you Christmas 24 and True Christmas channels) and have just about managed to hold off from blasting the Christmas tunes in the car but I can’t promise that will last for much longer.
This is actually a bit of a turn around for me. I mean I’ve always loved Christmas but I never wanted it to start until after my birthday (3rd December, in case you were wondering). This year though I’m ready to bathe in Christmas cheer for the next five weeks!
I’m a massive Four Year Strong fan and Home Alone is one of my favourite Christmas films (I love Home Alone 2 too but not HA3 because that kid is not Macaulay Culkin!) so when the two collided my little world nearly exploded.
Originally written and recorded by famed composer John Williams, Somewhere In My Memory was nominated for Best Original Song by the Academy Awards after its release in 1990 and has since become a holiday classic.
“We’ve wanted to record a Christmas song for as long as I can remember,” says lead vocalist/guitarist Alan Day. “Dan and I finally decided to sit down and figure out a way to make it happen and we couldn’t be happier about how it turned out. We wanted to do a song that hasn’t been covered a million times, and Home Alone is one of the best movies ever made, so Somewhere In My Memory seemed like the perfect song. We hope our rendition gives everyone as much holiday cheer as we had while recording it. Merry Christmas!”
I think I might share a couple more of my favourite Christmas songs in the run up to the big day. I’ll try to choose some more slightly lesser known ones that you may not have heard before or at least alternative versions because everyone loves a bit of Wham and Mariah at this time of year anyway!
