I’m trying my best to drink less fizzy drinks. While I was pregnant I drank gallons and gallons of sugary fizzy drinks. I know I shouldn’t have but I couldn’t stop myself. Now though, I’m drinking a lot more water. Yay for me. When I’m feeling fancy though I really like sparkling water. What I don’t like, is buying bottles of water. Especially plastic bottles.
I’m trying really hard to reduce the plastic waste in our house. It’s hard with a three-year-old and all the plastic tat that they just accumulate. So if I can reduce it in other areas, maybe it evens it up a little bit. I have lots of reusable water bottles that I have stacked up in the fridge ready to go and they all nestle against a big plastic bottle of sparkling water. I umm and ahh over buying bottles of sparkling water whenever we’re in the supermarket because I know it’s a luxury and I know we really don’t need another plastic bottle in the house.
Now though, I have managed to find a way to buy less plastic and fulfil a childhood dream all at once. I’ve got a sparkling water maker from Soda Stream. I know, fancy right?
These are not the Soda Streams of old. These are stylish, slimline, swish additions to your kitchen and not only do they look great they’re fun and useful. In the time I’ve had mine, I have to admit, I’ve mainly used it to make sparkling water. But I do have a couple of bottles of cordial to go with it too. I’ve only tried the blueberry and lime but it was really refreshing and tasted lovely. A nice change for when I do fancy a fizzy drink.
The Soda Press Co cordials come in glass bottles so they’re nice and easy to recycle. Not just that but they’re better for you than your average fizzy drink because they have up to 50% less sugar in them and they’re certified organic with no artificial ingredients in them.
I have to admit, I’m really impressed with my Soda Stream. I like that I can decide how fizzy I want my water (three pumps for a bit bubbly, five for fizzy fun) and I like that it means I’m not using nearly as much plastic as I was. A winner all round.
