A couple of Sundays ago I went to The Tower Of London with my in-laws to see the installation of ceramic poppies officially known as Blood Swept Lands And Seas Of Red.
There will eventually be 888,246 poppies in the moat to represent each of the British military fatalities during the First World War. It looks beautiful and is a stunning way to remember the fallen but it didn’t really move me. That was probably a lot to do with the huge throngs of people around. There was no real opportunity for reflection.
The Tower Of London is always pretty busy but the amount of people there a few weeks ago was huge and I can only imagine that it will get busier and busier up until Armistice Day. I would like to go back before then to hear the Roll Of Honour and the Last Post though.
Have you been to the Tower of London to see the poppies? What did you think?
At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
The Tower Of London remembers.
